Scope

This privacy notice covers library web properties, discovery tools, institutional repositories, computer workstations, Wi-Fi, circulation services, interlibrary loan, research consultations, and events managed by LASUSTECH Libraries. It complements University-wide privacy rules.

Information we collect

  • Account & identity: name, University ID/matric no., email, role/affiliation.
  • Borrowing & usage: checkouts, holds, renewals, fines/fees, ILL requests, bookings.
  • Digital interactions: search queries, downloads, device/browser metadata, IP address, session timestamps, cookies (see below).
  • Support records: chat/email/desk tickets, consultation notes (where applicable).
  • Events & training: registrations, attendance, feedback forms.

How we use your information

  • Provide and secure access to collections, spaces, systems, and licensed e-resources.
  • Manage borrowing, interlibrary loan, room/equipment bookings, and course reserves.
  • Deliver research help, training, and service notifications you request.
  • Improve sites and services through aggregate analytics and quality assurance.
  • Comply with legal/contractual obligations and University policies.

Cookies & analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember preferences. With your browser settings, you can block non-essential cookies; core features may stop working. We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand usage in aggregate (no profiling for advertising).

  • Session cookies (essential) expire when you close the browser.
  • Preference cookies (e.g., language, contrast) persist until cleared.

Sharing & third-party services

We share the minimum necessary information with library vendors (discovery, databases, e-books) to authenticate users and deliver content under license. Vendors operate under contractual privacy and security obligations. We do not sell personal data.

Security & retention

Library systems use industry-standard safeguards. Borrowing histories are retained only as needed for operations, audits, or where you opt-in (e.g., reading history). Other records follow University retention schedules; when no longer required, they are securely deleted or anonymized.

Your choices & rights

  • Access or correct your library account details.
  • Export selected records where technically feasible.
  • Request deletion of optional data you provided, subject to legal/operational limits.
  • Control cookies via your browser.
